Digital assets are evolving quickly, and New Zealand needs clear, practical regulation that supports innovation while protecting consumers and market integrity.
BlockchainNZ’s Digital Assets Framework sets out a practical, principles-based roadmap for regulatory change. It focuses on proportionate steps that align with the international principle of ‘same activity, same risk, same regulation’, while recognising New Zealand’s local market context.
The framework outlines key areas for action, including licensing for digital asset trading platforms, stablecoin regulation, custody and client asset protections, and financial advice rules. Its purpose is to support policymakers and regulators, while also providing BlockchainNZ with a shared reference point for ongoing advocacy and engagement.
With the right settings, New Zealand can protect consumers, strengthen market integrity and remain open to responsible digital asset innovation, giving businesses confidence to innovate while helping protect users and investors.
BlockchainNZ welcomes engagement as New Zealand considers the next stage of its digital assets regulatory journey.
