#

BlockchainNZ has had an eventful month with the Annual Meeting being held on Tuesday 7th September, as well as the appointment of the new Community Manager.

The annual meeting was a success and saw the renewal of our executive council member, John Mackie, as well as the appointment of Bridget Beale. BlockchainNZ also set out the goals and action plan for 2021-2022 to promote, connect, and advance blockchain within New Zealand. Our primary goals are to represent and support the sustainable growth of the blockchain ecosystem in New Zealand, as well as raising awareness and supporting institutions education on blockchain uses.

Some of our action plans include:

  • Collaborate with the industry and government to shape regulatory frameworks connected to blockchain technology, virtual asset and virtual asset service providers (VASPs).
  • Collaborate with the industry on blockchain related issues
  • And enable educational offerings in the New Zealand market

In keeping with our plan, BlockchainNZ has prepared a high-level and unexhaustive summary of the minimum standards VASPs should consider meeting in order to comply with the AML/CFT Act (Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009). More information can be found here. We will be discussing this in depth at our upcoming event Review of the Anti-money Laundering (AML) legislation Auckland, 20 October, please join us.

BlockchainNZ has also welcomed a new community manager,Alison Mackie. She has been appointed to manage three communities under the Tech Alliance includingBlockchainNZIoT Alliance andLocationTech.
